Nursery
Size: 6 ha in total
Starting year: 2019
Short description: Located within the Emberá community of Piriatí, this 6-hectare nursery has been operating since 2019 and produces up to one million native seedlings annually.
Established in 2019, our 6-hectare native species nursery is located in the Emberá community of Piriatí, a rural area in eastern Panama. With a production capacity of up to one million seedlings per year, the nursery is critical to our mission of restoring degraded landscapes through native reforestation.
Developed through a long-term strategic partnership with the Piriatí community, the nursery is a model for inclusive and sustainable development. It creates stable employment—especially for women—and offers training programs to build local capacity in forest management and ecological restoration.
The Emberá and Wounaan peoples, who primarily live in Panama’s Darién Province, have historically faced systemic barriers to economic opportunity. By combining traditional ecological knowledge with sustainable practices, the Piriatí nursery not only supports reforestation goals but also helps revitalize livelihoods.
